West End Carnival Band, and Paul Ambrose The 2001 Show was a tremendous success with beautiful weather and over £3000 raised for the Macmillan Nurses. Ray Prior and one of his Birds of PreyIn addition to the usual features, the Show saw an increase in the number of arena events – The West End Carnival Band dressed up as multi coloured rabbits and paraded around the arena with the help of the younger members of the audience. Ray Prior and his birds of prey entertained the crowds with demonstrations throughout the afternoon including kestrels and barn owls, who spent their time, while not performing, observing the visitors on their stand. An impressive aerobatics display by Paul Ambrose in his Pitt Special bi plane was a special treat, Paul will be opening the Show this year. Further entertainment was provided by the ever-popular small steam railway engine ride, army assault course and junior football matches.

The Recreation Ground was also host to a selection of stalls selling plants, books and bric a brac, competitions and games, for all the visitors, young and old. Refreshments were available, with the local WI providing exceptional cakes for their tea room and for those wanting something stronger, the bar in the Cricket Pavillion was also a great success. Local charities and groups also provided stalls and displays, including the local playgroup, the Cats Protection League, and the Historical Society. The Running Horse and the Chimneys public houses took part in the tug-o-war competition.

The Flower Show was awarded the Gold Award again by the Hampshire Federation of Horticultural Societies, with a record number of entries ranging from fruit and vegetables, to cakes and crafts – the efforts of the local people were admired throughout the day by a steady stream of visitors to the marquee.

After the Flower show cups had been awarded and the pigeons were released; the balloon race stall – the demand for which was so great that they had run out of gas – released the balloons (with the furthest reaching Gironde in Western France).

Once again, the Littleton and Harestock Show, provided a perfect day out bringing together the communities of Littleton and Harestock.
