The
The Littleton and Harestock Show was yet again another success for 2002, with people attending from all over Winchester
and the surrounding areas. Even the sun made an appearance, despite the grey clouds! The Flower Show proved a hit with the residents of Littleton and Harestock.
A spectacular array of flower specimens and arrangements were on Show, accompanied by fruit and
vegetables. For those, who were not gardeners, there were crafts, photographs, cakes and other
baked goods, as well as the ever popular Children’s section.
One of the most successful
arena events was Jez Avery who performed his stunt bike tricks with the help of willing volunteers. The Flying Display by
Paul Ambrose in his Pitt Special bi-plane interrupted the Junior football, leaving the audience amazed by his acrobatics
– we only hope that he doesn’t fly his commercial planes like that! The army played a key part in the events, with the Band of the Light Division
entertaining the crowds, and a drill display by the Winchester Army Training Regiment – in between
times they also kept the beer tent , run by the Albion, busy. The success of the day, was when the
Running Horse tug ‘o’ war team retained their title after defeating the team from the SJM Barracks.
All of
the stalls did a raging trade, with the Cat’s Protection League and the MS Stalls attracting a constant stream of
visitors. Proving to be particularly popular with the kids was the crockery smashing game and the ball pit for the
younger Show go-ers. Other attractions include the stunning balloon race, the regular Book stall and the teddy
bungee jump. The WI did a sterling job with the teas, with an amazing selection of cakes that kept everyone
going throughout the day.
For those that attended, or even if you missed the Show this year, all of the activities, stalls,
events and the Flower Show have been captured by the Web Team, so check the 2002 Photo Gallery to see if you are
a part of Show history. |
