2004 Show Review
Introduction History Past Shows: 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008
Flower Show The 2004 Show saw great entertainment, a splendid Flower Show and side-shows to appeal to all ages. The Marquee hosted the traditional Flower Show with a wide variety of classes and the usual high level of competition. The Floral, Produce, Arts, Crafts, Cookery and Young Persons sections were all well supported. Sparsholt Women's Institute chalked up another win in the WI competition.
West End Carnival BandArena entertainment started with Girls' Football, where Winchester avenged their defeat at last year's Show. Paul Ambrose then gave a spectacular aerobatic display in his new plane. The West End Carnival Band followed, amusing show-goers with their marching music and audience involvement, even playing requests and letting one of the arena footballers lead the marching as the band player her "Happy Birthday."
Falconhigh completed the Arena entertainments flying a number of birds in a falconry display. Phil and Margaret also got the children involved, with some handling the birds and others marking out a "human runway" across the arena for the falcons to fly down. Presentation of Flower Show cups finalised events, but the Bouncy Castle and Ice Cream van were still busy long afterwards.
Many familiar stalls and sideshows returned with the miniature steam railway, bouncy castle and (biodegradable) balloon race proving particularly popular. Food and drink were also popular with hot dogs, bacon rolls, sweets and ice cream plus the St James Tavern beer tent and pavillion bar serving alcoholic and soft drinks, the Show provided a complete afternoon's entertainment.
The 2004 Photo Gallery shows many of the Arena events, stalls and Flower Show exhibits.
The Show was yet another huge success and it was good to see so many local families enjoying the afternoon.
